Software Intern

Job description:

Panasonic currently has an opening for a software intern positionat our Panasonic Silicon Valley Laboratory (PSVL) of Panasonic R&D Company of America, located in Cupertino, CA. This internship will last until the end of March 2012.

Panasonic Silicon Valley Laboratory is leading research in the convergence of user interfaces, sensing, cloud services and networking technologies to develop the next generation of Panasonic products. The laboratory focuses on developing new concepts and user experiences through rapid prototyping and collaboration with the best-in-class research in Silicon Valley.

As part of PSVL, the intern will be responsible for the implementation of the server infrastructure portion a new concept prototype showcasing the power of connectivity brought to traditionally "dumb" ecosystems. The development work will address various building blocks of the service stack: design of communication protocol with a distributed client pool, database and cloud engine, web frontend (graphical UI), and mobile application. More specifically, the intern will be asked to contribute to the development of a web engine receiving and storing sensing information from multiple devices, and servicing an API from web and smartphone clients that will forward commands to the appropriate device. The intern must have strong knowledge of PHP and relational databases, cloud backends, and feel comfortable learning new languages and platforms. Throughout the project, the intern will work closely with a cross functional team of engineers and designers in order to integrate his output in the final platform with a view of delivering the most compelling user experience possible.

Qualifications

Required Skills

Seeking or having completed a graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field

Proficiency in user interaction design, prototyping, and testing

Demonstrated proficiency in PHP, Javascript, HTML, CSS, and MySQL

Experience in developing web backend engines for processing and API servicing (Ruby, etc) with large amount of frequent transactions

Proven track record of designing and implementing intuitive and compelling graphical UIs for web clients (desktop / tablet / smartphone) and native mobile clients (tablet / smartphone)
